ABOUT THE CRAFT BREW CAST

I am often surprised when my fellow beer lovers are unaware of happenings in the brewing industry and have decided to do my part in spreading the Craft Beer culture with a podcast. I know the brewing community; brewers, owners, critics, connoisseurs, and of course beers. The theme is Current happenings in the brewing community, so how about calling these Brew Currents. I’ll be featuring live interviews at festivals, and breweries, getting brewing news out to you, and let you know where the great brew events are happening. We’ll be visiting master brewers and new breweries coming onto the scene. So grab a good beer and kick back, I’m taking you to a festival or two.

 

Posted on July 22, 2007 it was fitting that the premier episode be The Sasquatch Brew Festival, held in Eugene, Oregon. This fest is a fundraiser for the Glen Hay Falconer Memorial Foundation, established in honor of my late Significant Other. It is a fundraiser for the Foundation to continue a brewing scholarship program established in Glen’s honor. These scholarships are full rides to the Siebel Institute in Chicago, IL valued at $10,000 each. You can find information about the foundation and an application by clicking here.
 

  

With my PDA recorder and camera in hand I spoke with Quentin Falconer, Glen’s brother, and this years scholarship winners Jacob Leanord assistant brewer at Walking Man Brewery in Stevenson Washington and Corey Blodget with Mcmenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse and Brewery in Hillsboro Oregon. I also speak with Wakonda Brewing Company's Juanita Kirkland, she speaks about affects that the proposed Oregon Beer Tax would have on small breweries like Wakonda if passed.

About this project

This is my first run at this stuff. We’ll all probably look back on them and grimace at the sound quality one day. But, it is time to move forward. I’ve got a couple of programs to fool around with. Not being an audiophile it’ll take me time to master the software. Meanwhile, I’ve uploaded the 1st episode. You’ll hear fest attendees enjoying craft brews in the background. What’s a brew fest without lots of people.

About Me

Okay, here goes. Just a stream of consciousness:
After living in the Pacific Northwest for more than 20 years I find myself immersed in the Brewing Community. Some may say that I am a beer snob, but the truth is, though I appreciate hops, I prefer malt. I'm sometimes called "Malt Momma". I've slept on the couches and in tent camps among some of the most respected Craft Brewers of our time. A nicer bunch of people must be hard to find. This brewing community is wholesome and family oriented. I am blessed to be called friend by so many of these talented folks. I am always delighted to hear of what the men and women in brewing are doing and how community is drawn together around this fermented malt....and hops. It is that delight that has inspired me to publish these podcasts. I hope that some of the excitement of these events comes thru in the 'Brewcasts'.
